The SteelDrivers won the 2016 Grammy Award for “Best Bluegrass Album of the Year” for their album “The Muscle Shoals Album”.

The 2016 Grammy Award winner in the “Best Bluegrass Album of the Year” category will be making a tour stop at the historic Astra Theatre in Jasper later this fall.  On Saturday, October 15, 2016, The SteelDrivers will headline a concert that will serve as a celebration of sorts, as Next Act, Inc., recently learned that it is the recipient of a $400,000 historic preservation grant that will go toward major infrastructure and preservation renovations to the 80-year-old iconic theater.

“To have a band like The SteelDrivers at the Astra to help us celebrate is significant for us in a number of ways, not the least of which is to show how remarkably far we have come as an organization since our October 2014 inception,” said Leslie Hamby, Next Act, Inc.’s chairperson.  “While we plan on hosting several more events before year’s end, this could, likely, be the last major concert event before construction and renovation efforts begin in the spring of 2017.  Come celebrate with us!”

The evening is being presented by Best Home Furnishings.  “We are thrilled to partner with the Next Act in bringing a nationally-acclaimed band to the area,” said Brian Lange, president of Best Home Furnishings.  “Not only will this be a great night of entertainment, but continue in the great fundraising efforts to revitalize a local icon that will benefit the community for generations.”

There are two ticket prices for the event:  $55 per VIP ticket and $27.50 per general admission ticket.  The VIP section will be limited to 75 total seats and will include the following package:  a meet and greet with The SteelDrivers at Brew, Jasper’s soon-to-open all day cafe (cash bar, free finger foods); preferred parking (details to be given later); preferred seating at the show; and a free drink voucher (redeemable at the Astra-only).

Beech Grove, Indiana’s Brandon Whyde will perform a brief opening solo/acoustic set at 7:30 p.m.  The Astra’s box office and doors will open for the event at 6 p.m. (eastern).  The SteelDrivers’ performance will begin at 8:15 p.m.  VIP ticket holders can arrive for the meet and greet with the band at Brew at 5:30 p.m. and must show tickets for entrance.

The SteelDrivers, Rounder Records’ recording artists, have proven that the fourth time is the charm—having been nominated for the prestigious award three other times in the same category (all three, by the way, with former bandmate and current country music sensation Chris Stapleton still in the band).  The album for which they earned the 2016 Grammy, The Muscle Shoals Recordings, is the fourth SteelDrivers studio album and is comprised of all new material, mostly original, and recorded in Muscle Shoals at the legendary NuttHouse Recording Studio.  Much of the inspiration came from Muscle Shoals, an area of exultation and experimentation, and home to the SteelDrivers’ lead vocalist, writer, and lead singer, Gary Nichols.
